Our innovation

We are bringing innovation and creativity to our market

We supply products that are leading the market for their innovation and design.

Raspberry Pi

The Raspberry Pi is a low-cost, credit card-sized single-board computer that was designed to boost the uptake of programming among young people and enthusiasts.

Launched by The Raspberry Pi Foundation in 2012, more than 11 million boards are already being used worldwide. Raspberry Pi is the UK’s all-time best-selling computer.

GripIt Fixings

The GripIt Fixing is an innovative high-strength plasterboard wall fixing, which offers high loading capabilities, ease of installation and consistent reliability to rival the traditional plasterboard fixing.

Whereas traditional fixings have only limited ability to secure attachments such as cabinets or radiators to plasterboard walls without ripping out, GripIt Fixings provide a stronger anchor capable of handling loads of up to 180kg.

This makes them ideal for use in a wide variety of industrial settings, as well as in offices, hotels, retail stores and around the home.

RepRapPro Ormerod

The RepRapPro Ormerod 3D printer brings low cost, self-replicating 3D printing technology to engineers worldwide.

The Ormerod is easy to expand in functionality, fast to replicate and fast to assemble, making it one of the most versatile 3D printers available.

3D printing is fast becoming an essential part of the electronic and mechanical design process. When used in conjunction with the free DesignSpark Mechanical 3D modelling software, the Ormerod enables engineers to develop sophisticated concepts and products quickly and inexpensively, saving months in the design cycle.

eCommerce pioneer

We are a global force in B2B eCommerce, with an e-centric, multi-channel approach to our market and customers.

Our online business has transformed us from being a catalogue-led distributor and driven our growth for over a decade. eCommerce now accounts for over £750m of our worldwide sales, equivalent to 62% of our business, up from 15% in 2004.

We have pioneered some sector-changing innovations, from our market-leading website to our award-winning DesignSpark community and design tools.

As a company we set out to evolve ahead of the market, constantly adapting to the needs of a fast-moving and highly knowledgeable customer base. It is this willingness to engage with new techniques and adapt our internal culture to suit a multi-channel approach that sets us apart in our industry.

Our reputation as a visionary in our field, with the capability to reach millions of customers and adapt to their markets fluidly, also means that our suppliers favour us for their new product launches.

Digital marketing

ECommerce innovation

We are driving eCommerce excellence by revolutionising how we interact with and engage our customers throughout their research, design and buying journey.

We have achieved this through the creation of an integrated digital marketing platform.

We have successfully utilised Search Engine Marketing (SEM), Search Engine Optimisation (SEO), social media, behavioural targeting and automated email marketing to generate billions of impressions, encourage longer customer relationships, increase sales and deliver brand recognition.

Through our eCommerce channel, we now offer complete lifecycle support, from viewing 3D product models to the ability to purchase 24/7 from PCs, smartphones and tablets. Our successful digital marketing strategy has provided an impressive return on investment and catalysed a dramatic cultural shift in our business.

Design resources

We are continually evolving the design resources we provide to support innovation in engineering.

DesignSpark

DesignSpark is our online design community and resource centre for engineers. The DesignSpark website hosts a comprehensive range of free-of-charge software design tools, technical data and development resources, in addition to user generated reviews and shared knowledge.

DesignSpark PCB

DesignSpark PCB V5

DesignSpark PCB is our free, award-winning electronics design software for schematic capture and PCB layout. It is packed with time saving features, including extensive component libraries and video tutorials.

Launched in July 2010, the software has over 200,000 users globally. User feedback is an important part of the tool's evolution and is helping to shape its future direction.

DesignSpark Mechanical

DesignSpark Mechanical

DesignSpark Mechanical is our revolutionary design software that uses the power of direct modelling to enable engineers to quickly create and modify 3D designs. This is the first tool of its kind available completely free-of-charge.

DesignSpark Electrical

DesignSpark Electrical is our free, fully specified electrical CAD package which brings time-saving and error-reduction benefits to control panel, machinery and electrical system design.

The software integrates a library of more than 250,000 components and parts which can easily be added to customer designs.

3D CAD Models

As part of our commitment to support design engineers, we offer a free catalogue of over 100 million 3D CAD models that enables the rapid integration of products into a design.

3D models are available for a vast array of technologies including connectors, power supplies, and automation and control gear.

RS Toolbox

RS Toolbox is our free-of-charge mobile app that provides a central access point to a range of popular electronics design information and tools. The app saves time compared to sourcing reference material through Internet search engines and empowers engineers, hobbyists and students to capture design ideas on-the-go.

RS Toolbox includes a multitude of electronic reference materials, engineering calculators, converters and lookup tables in an easy-to-use format and is available in 16 different languages.
