Our health and safety

Health and safety is of paramount importance to us

Ensuring the safety of our employees around the world is a primary concern.

We recognise health and safety as key for the continued economic success and sustainable future of the business. We are committed to continually improving our health and safety performance through training and raising awareness of safety in the workplace.

Our Group Executive Committee and senior management conduct regular health and safety visits to our distribution centres and trade counters to reinforce the importance of this vital issue. Our health and safety systems, processes and organisation are embedded as a core activity and underpin many wider business strategies.

Our core objective is to achieve long-term cultural change within the business, promoting good practice and behaviours amongst all employees, regardless of whether they are office-based, field-based or work at our distribution centres and trade counters.

Our long-term aspirational goal is for 'zero lost time accidents', with stretching annual targets to deliver safety improvements. We have implemented a five-year health and safety strategy that is producing significant results.

In recognition of our health and safety success we have been awarded the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) Gold Award for Occupational Health and Safety, demonstrating an upward trend from Silver and Bronze in previous years.

We have also received a distinction in the British Safety Council's International Safety Awards 2014, having scored 60 out of 60 for our commitment to the health, safety and well-being of our people.
