Electrocomponents implements new organisation structure to enable a more integrated approach to servicing its worldwide customer base


Oxford, UK, 28 September 2012 - Electrocomponents plc (LSE:ECM), the world's leading high service distributor of electronics and maintenance products, announces a new management structure designed to support the Group's global operating model, enabling a more integrated approach to servicing its worldwide base of over one million customers.

The transition from a country-based structure to this new functional structure follows an extensive review of how best to accelerate the implementation of the Group's strategic initiatives, drive efficiencies and deliver a faster rate of long-term growth. Electrocomponents, whose largest subsidiary RS Components Ltd this year celebrates its 75th anniversary, has grown to be a highly successful international business with operations in 32 countries and distributors in a further 37 countries. Over 70% of Group revenues are now accounted for by markets outside of the UK and the Group's international operations include 17 distribution centres across the world.

Structural trends in the markets in which Electrocomponents operates lend themselves to a global approach. Customer needs are similar as global brands increasingly dominate the product ranges that they demand, and the internet has transformed the way in which marketing can be conducted. Moreover, the regionalisation of its European businesses in 2010 resulted in a single offer being made available across Europe and increased revenues in the region; this encouraged the business to replicate this success across the Group.

The new organisation will enable the company to provide a larger, more consistent offer worldwide via its industry-leading eCommerce platform, deliver global marketing campaigns and enhance supplier engagement. By maintaining an approach to sales that recognises the importance of focused, local customer interaction and by continuing a reliable, high level of service this will improve the customer experience and increase its competitive advantage over the smaller market participants against whom it competes.

New Group Executive Committee (GEC)
In line with the global operating model, a new GEC has been created under the leadership of Ian Mason, Group Chief Executive. Its members are:

  • Simon Boddie, Group Finance Director
  • Phil Cook, Global IT Director
  • Klaus Göldenbot, Global Sales Director
  • Chris Page, Global Offer Director (see note)
  • Paul Quested, Global Strategy Director
  • Keith Reville, Global Marketing Director
  • Ian Watson, Global HR Director

The members of the GEC have established the organisational structures for each of their functions, and these will be fully operational during the third quarter of the financial year. Further information on the members of the GEC can be found at /about-us/management/.
