RS Components makes life easier for design engineers with revolutionary new solution for PCB component models

02.02.2017

Now available via RS, PCB Part Library delivers a breakthrough for sourcing and managing schematic symbols and footprints for all PCB components

Oxford, UK, 2 February 2017 - RS Components (RS), the trading brand of Electrocomponents plc (LSE:ECM), the global distributor for engineers, today announced it has extended its relationship with SamacSys, the world’s leading supplier of high-quality PCB schematic symbols and footprints. RS is now offering direct access to schematic symbols and footprints from SamacSys, for all PCB components, via the new PCB Part Library service.

Studies have shown that up to 50% of an electronics design engineer’s time can be spent on sourcing and managing data for component models used within design software tools. PCB Part Library provides immediate access to high-quality component models, thereby saving electronics engineers and PCB designers from the time-consuming and potentially error-prone task of manually curating their part libraries.

PCB Part Library schematic symbols and footprints can be used in all leading PCB design software environments including the free-for-download DesignSpark PCB software from RS. The part models can be downloaded directly from RS webpages under the Technical Reference section. Once selected, the PCB schematics and footprints are immediately available for use and placement by the user, in the desired file format for their particular design tool.

“These part libraries can represent significant savings for any maker or company developing electronic products,” said Cameron Ward, Senior Vice President of Innovation at RS. “These high-quality schematic symbols and component footprints, when used with a leading PCB design tool, can mean an error-free design process for engineers, saving them both time and cost in building their own part libraries.”

“The DesignSpark community and tool resource is an important and fast-growing initiative for electronics design engineers that enables them to rapidly create prototypes and bring products to market quickly,” said Alex MacDougall, Managing Director at SamacSys. “This new library service available via RS brings the free SamacSys parts models to an even wider audience.”
